The government plans to establish an agro-industrial park to strengthen food security and expand local agricultural production, according to Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant.
He said two sites—Old Road and Christian Valley—are being considered for the development, which will include agro-processing facilities, a feed mill, and model homes built using sustainable materials.
“It is anticipated that the agro-industrial park will see the establishment of a feed mill and other developments that will contribute to Antigua and Barbuda’s food security,” Merchant said during Thursday’s post-briefing session.
The project forms part of the administration’s strategy to reduce the country’s reliance on imported animal feed and to encourage value-added processing within the farming sector.
Merchant described the development as a significant step toward a more self-sufficient and resilient agricultural economy, adding that it reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to food sustainability and rural development.
