Antigua and Barbuda to Create Over 2,000 Jobs in 2025

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has announced that over 2,000 jobs are projected to be created in Antigua and Barbuda in 2025, marking another milestone in the country’s robust post-pandemic economic recovery. The job growth will be driven by increased activity in the tourism, construction, and other key sectors.

“Our economy is generating opportunities for our people,” Browne said during his 2025 Budget presentation. “We anticipate the creation of over 2,000 jobs next year due to strong demand in tourism and the construction of several luxury properties.”

The tourism sector, a cornerstone of Antigua and Barbuda’s economy, continues to thrive. As visitor arrivals surge, new projects such as the construction of luxury resorts, including One & Only at Half Moon Bay and Rosewood Barbuda, are expected to create significant employment opportunities. Additionally, ongoing investments in the Royalton Chic Hotel and the recently opened Barbuda International Airport will further contribute to job creation.

The construction sector, which contributed a record $900 million to the national economy in 2024, remains a key driver of growth. Several residential and commercial projects, including the Booby Alley Housing Development and the Louis Hill Housing Project in Barbuda, are slated to begin next year, offering employment to thousands of workers across various skill levels.

The anticipated job creation builds on a strong foundation of economic recovery. In 2024, the total number of active jobs rose from 47,996 in 2023 to 49,915, with workers earning $1.8 billion in wages. This momentum is expected to continue, reflecting the government’s successful efforts to attract investment and stimulate economic growth.

“This growth in employment is a testament to the dynamism and resilience of our economy,” Browne stated. “It underscores our government’s commitment to creating opportunities for all citizens and residents.”

  1. An early election is around the corner. Please get re-registered the people of Antigua and Barbuda. This election pot from the PM speech and is too good to be true.

  2. I endeavor would have provided from 5 to about 50 and up to now ABLP cannot encourage the government bodies (like COP and Firearms commission) to act in a reasonable and timely manner. I do not see 2000 jobs being added to the economy, if occur, mostlikely will not be from any actions of ABLP and their PM. I know how they are from personal and substantial experience in business formation in Antigua and Barbuda. Nothing of substantial importance will be encouraged and supported by PM Gaston Browne or AG Cutie Benjamin or MP Chet Greene or ABLP. Trust me I know, I pleaded with them.

  3. And nothing is being done to the contractors and sub-contractors in the construction industry that pay workers below the accepted rate, pay late and do not pay Medical Benefits and Social Security. That is why many of the Antiguan workers who went to Barbuda returned and now cheap foreign labour is being brought it. If these jobs do not benefit your people then what is the use? Now Mr. PM follow through on this to make sure that Antiguan and Barbudan workers are being fairly treated. There is too much corruption among the Labour, Medical Benefits and Social Security inspectots who are supposed to be checking work sites.
