The National Swim Team travelled to Bridgetown, Barbados, to compete at 22nd Central American and Caribbean Amateur Swimming Confederation (CCCAN) swim meet. The highly anticipated and competitive meet is being hosted by the Barbados Amateur Swimming Federation (BASA) at The Barbados Aquatic Centre from June 24th to July 8th, 2019.
The team comprises of Tivon Benjamin (Boys 11-12), Hailey Derrick (Girls 13 -14), Olivia Fuller (Girls 15 – 17), Diallo Marshall, Lleyton Martin and Jadon Wuilliez (Boys 15 – 17), Samantha Roberts (Girls 18+), and Daryl Appleton, Stefano Mitchell and Noah Mascoll Gomes (Boys 18+). Coach for the team is Nelson Molina Fojo.
Also representing Antigua and Barbuda are Technical Officials Vernon Blackman, Denise Jarvis and Emma Martin.
CCCAN is one of the premier swimming meets in the region and this year, over 300 swimmers from 28 nation federations, including Mexico, Cuba and Dominican Republic will compete.
President of the Antigua and Barbuda Swimming Federation, Dr. Derek Marshall, who travelled with the team, congratulated the team members for their qualification saying, “The standard of swimming continues to rise in Antigua and Barbuda, as evident by the size of the CCCAN team for this year’s competition and their qualifying times. This is the largest contingent of swimmers we have ever sent to CCCAN, and they have all met the strict qualifying triple-A time standard. I congratulate each and every one of them and wish them all the best.”
President Marshall added, “I would also like to congratulate the Technical Officials who have been selected for this high profile meet. Like the athletes, our officials are raising the bar and should be commended for the sacrifices they make for the development of the sport.”
The swimmers’ performances can be followed live on the Meet Mobile app available on iOS and Android. A live feed video will be provided by BASA but details were not available at the time of this release.
