The Antigua and Barbuda Student Association Jamaica (ABSAJ) has expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Gaston Browne and his government for their swift intervention and assistance during the passage of Hurricane Melissa.
In a letter dated November 1, 2025, ABSAJ President Jewel Moore commended the Prime Minister’s “swift and thoughtful intervention” in arranging accommodation for students at the Pegasus Hotel amid the storm. The association said the government’s actions provided comfort and safety “during an extremely challenging time.”
Moore also thanked Browne and his team for coordinating with LIAT to explore evacuation options for students if conditions in Jamaica had worsened. “Even though it was not utilized, we truly appreciate the efforts made to provide us transportation away from the impending danger when our safety was not guaranteed,” the letter stated.
The association said the government’s compassion reflected “the very best of our nation’s values,” adding that Browne’s commitment to the welfare of students studying abroad demonstrates his investment in shaping the future of Antigua and Barbuda’s youth.
“We are sincerely grateful for the government’s continued support and for standing by us in this moment of need,” Moore wrote. “Your actions have not only safeguarded us physically but have strengthened our sense of pride and connection to our beloved nation Antigua and Barbuda.”

Big up PM GASTON BROWNE. all thank and praise to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, the Creator of the universe.
As the famous Jamaican sang in her song Toast, “Gratitude is a must”. I’m so glad our young students are starting to learn to show gratitude. A character failing many her in Antigua and especially in Barbuda. Antigua and Barbuda has over the many years of their independence receive help/grants/assistance in so many ways from countries like Cuba, Venezuela and most of all China. And even people like Allen Stanford has given much to this country and yes he was rewarded with a Knighthood, but the UPP didn’t waste time to strip him of the title as soon as they could. Lately Calvin Ayre is the one making large personal donations to the betterment of the country and its people. Many time I said thank you to him on behalf of the ungrateful people of my country. But they are very quick the bash him when it comes to labeling him as a foreign investor that wants to take up out lands. the concept of giving back to the country is not one practiced by our vey own country men/women. It’s all about get what you can get as Kin Obstinate sang. I pray that our children will acquire that mentality of gratitude. It is a Godly character. Give thanks every time. Give thanks to the Holy One. First thing in the morning. Give thanks even in times of trouble.
