All 53 Antigua and Barbuda students in Jamaica have been confirmed safe following the passage of Hurricane Melissa on Tuesday.

Maurice Merchant, Director of Communications and Coordinator of the Prime Minister’s Scholarship Programme, said the students housed at the Pegasus Hotel in Kingston were unharmed and will remain there until classes at the University of the West Indies resume on Monday.

Merchant noted that while some students in Montego Bay experienced structural damage where they were staying, none were injured.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne monitored the situation throughout the storm. “We thank God for sparing their lives and for keeping them safe,” he said.

  1. Don’t Ask what You can Do for Your Country, but What your Country can and will Do for You.
That is what is at play here. The country through the Cabinet lead by the honorable Gaston A. Browne decided to put them all in a safe house. A Luxury Hotel. And yes they had a great time there ALL Expenses Paid by their Government from Satrurday thorugh today Thursday.
Not that the UPP would have done the same. Hell no. They never had money. Not even to send persons needy of medical attention overseas. But you will not hear from them about that. They criticize why the government could not fly these student out to Antigua. Question isn’t it after a hurricane that you need to see what happened to your property. Secure your belongings and then decide whether it is better to leave or stay. Who knows when school is about to start.
This government seems to always be making the right decissions. Because they do nothing in a hurry. They discuss and delibarate things. And all ideas are taking in consideration. That is how you run government. Kudos to the ABLP government.
