Antigua and Barbuda signs Visa Waiver agreement with the United Arab Emirates

Antigua and Barbuda has formalized a Visa Waiver agreement with the United Arab Emirates, paving the way for expanded business and investment opportunities between the twin island nation and the oil rich federation.

The agreement to remove the travel conditions was signed by Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs the Hon. EP Chet Greene and the UAE’s Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy.

Both officials are attending the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, but set aside time during their busy schedules to formalize the arrangements.

Antigua and Barbuda has long enjoyed friendly and productive relations with the UAE, resulting in a number of major investments that continue to bring significant benefits to the populations of both islands, Barbuda in particular.

The government of Antigua and Barbuda sees the UAE as a bona fide investment and sustainable development partner.

Through the US$50 million UAE-Caribbean Renewable Energy Fund (UAE-CREF), Antigua and Barbuda is benefitting from the largest renewable energy investment in the Caribbean.

The flagship investment is the Green Barbuda project, which includes an 800kW diesel power plant, a 720kW hybrid solar power plant saving the Government of Antigua and Barbuda hundreds of thousands in energy costs.

Minister Greene called the signing a major step in the diplomatic relations between Antigua and Barbuda and the UAE. “What we have achieved today clearly demonstrates the abiding bonds of friendship between our two countries.

For Antigua and Barbuda, as a small island developing state, I can see on the horizon brand new opportunities for our people across multiple sectors, whether it be in tourism, education or any other field,” Minister Greene stated.

Besides the two top officials, also in attendance at the signing were Antigua and Barbuda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Walton Webson, H.E.  Gilbert Boustany, H.E. Mohammed El Zohbi, and First Secretary at the Antigua and Barbuda Mission Asha Challenger.

  1. it was just a vacation trip, puttting in some performative politics to give an impression to the tax payers whose back they fly around trhe world on seeking enrichment personally.

  2. Listen this is the 21st century. When is the world going to wake up and realize that globalization is here and borders do not really exist.

  3. I hope Gatson Browne also learn from them how to combat crime and stamp out it’s dirty stain from society.

No place is perfect, but you are not robbing anyone in those places and get away with it, that’s for sure. It’s a more restricted country, but what you work for us yours, no one coming to rob you every night you go to sleep.

So I hope Gatson Browne ask some questions about safety as well.

  4. The more visa free travel available the more valuable our passport get. And therefore CIP clients will be lining up for our passport. Not many of our people travel that far. I stand to be corrected because this guy Zorol Barthley tend to take people all over the world with his tour operator business DizzyB. Keep it up Zorol, I heard good things about your tours. Will join you one of these days with the madam. Your Dad and I were very good friends and fellow Rotarians.
