January has seen the highest air arrivals on record for Antigua and Barbuda, with 34,313 travelers landing in the destination, marking an 11.8% increase compared to previous years.
Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez described the surge as a sign of growing confidence in travel, as restrictions ease and more destinations reopen. He told Antigua.news that the influx is a positive indicator for the nation’s tourism recovery after the challenges posed by the pandemic.
This rise in visitors in Antigua and Barbuda is driven by factors such as the easing of travel restrictions, expanded flight availability, and competitive pricing. Many airlines have responded by increasing routes to meet demand.
Tourism operators and local businesses are optimistic about the economic benefits, expecting an uptick in spending and foot traffic, which will positively impact sectors such as hospitality and retail.

If tourism is increasing, why do they want to increase taxes?
Our communities hardly get any foot traffic unless it’s registered as an historical site, Mr Fernandez. But it is good to know that our tourism product is working. Kudos to the hard working people in your ministry.. Now about the present condition of our beloved St. John’s when you go start do subbum bout dat??
Quality not quantity please
A strong start to the year! Now let’s ensure visitors get the best experience so they keep coming back.
are we doing enough to balance tourism with sustainability?
This is great, but I hope local vendors and small businesses are benefiting from the influx of tourists.
are we prepared for the added pressure on transportation and public services?
Hopefully, this success encourages investment in more diverse attractions beyond just the beaches.
Let’s also focus on making Antigua and Barbuda a year-round destination.
