Antigua and Barbuda Red Cross Marks 84 Years of Service and Humanitarian Impact
The Antigua and Barbuda Red Cross Society (ABRCS) is celebrating its 84th anniversary, marking more than eight decades of service, compassion, and resilience to the people of Antigua and Barbuda.
In a message to commemorate the milestone, President Dr. J. Humphreys paid tribute to the organization’s volunteers, describing them as “the first on the scene and the last to leave” during crises ranging from hurricanes and floods to fires, pandemics, and personal emergencies.
Dr. Humphreys said the ABRCS continues to stand as “a pillar of hope and resilience,” built on the founding vision of compassion, courage, and community. He commended volunteers for their “dedication, sacrifice, and courage,” noting that their efforts have made an immeasurable difference in the lives of those they serve.
Beyond emergency response, the Red Cross has broadened its work through youth training, health education, disaster preparedness, and climate resilience initiatives. The organization’s community outreach and mobile health programs, Dr. Humphreys said, are strengthening local capacity and ensuring that no one is left behind.
He described volunteers as “the lifeblood of the organization,” embodying the core Red Cross principles of kindness in action, courage in adversity, and selfless dedication to others.
“As we celebrate this milestone, let it also be a moment to look forward,” Dr. Humphreys wrote, acknowledging the growing challenges faced by humanitarian groups. “Yet I am confident that with your continued dedication, the Antigua and Barbuda Red Cross Society will meet these challenges with resilience, innovation, and unwavering humanity.”
The president expressed gratitude for the service of all members and reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to bringing hope, comfort, and life-saving support to communities across the nation.
“Let us move forward together, inspired by the difference we make and motivated by the lives we touch,” he concluded. “Your work matters, and your impact is profound.”
The ABRCS, established in 1940, continues to play a vital role in national response efforts and community development, maintaining its mission to alleviate human suffering and promote health, safety, and dignity for all.
