Antigua and Barbuda is preparing to host the 55th General Assembly of the Organisation of American States (OAS), a diplomatic milestone for the twin-island nation, according to Foreign Minister E.P. Chet Greene.
Speaking in an interview on ABS, Minister Greene said the event, scheduled for June 26–28 at the American University of Antigua, would place the country on a global stage and spotlight its diplomatic acumen.
“This is a crowning achievement for our diplomacy,” Greene declared. “We have never hosted an event of this magnitude in the OAS context. It signals confidence in Antigua and Barbuda’s capacity, both as a democracy and a venue.”
The assembly will bring together foreign ministers and high-level officials from 34 member states. Greene noted that hosting the summit demonstrates the nation’s commitment to multilateralism and positions it as a bridge between larger powers and smaller states.
The government is coordinating closely with security forces, local contractors, and international partners to ensure smooth logistics. Greene credited Prime Minister Gaston Browne for “championing” the initiative, adding that the Cabinet saw the hosting opportunity as “a moment for us to shine.”
