Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda is preparing for an official visit to Kenya as part of efforts to deepen ties between Africa and the Caribbean.
Cabinet spokesman Maurice Merchant confirmed the planned trip following Browne’s participation in the recent Africa-Caricom Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He said the Prime Minister’s visit would build on discussions held with African leaders about strengthening trade, investment, and cultural exchanges.
At the summit, Browne pressed for subsidised direct flights between Africa and the Caribbean, arguing that regional governments already subsidise other international routes and should do the same to establish a reliable air link with the continent. He also urged closer collaboration on reparations, technology, and education, including student exchange programmes and joint research initiatives.
Merchant said Browne was particularly encouraged by bilateral talks with Kenyan officials and views the upcoming visit as a chance to secure concrete agreements. “There was a sense of urgency and promise for something to be done,” Merchant noted, describing the momentum as a historic opportunity to reconnect the Caribbean with its ancestral ties.

The government of Antigua and Barbuda has repeatedly positioned itself as a leading advocate for Africa-Caricom cooperation, with Browne calling for sustainable connectivity and reparatory justice to be prioritised in future agendas.
