The Ministry of Creative Industries officially unveiled the Antigua and Barbuda National Music Awards (ABNMAs) on November 21, 2024, marking a milestone in recognizing local talent and contributions to the nation’s vibrant music industry. The inaugural ceremony is scheduled for February 2, 2025, promising to be a grand celebration of artistry and commitment.
The ABNMAs will honor musicians and practitioners in three major categories: Musician of the Year Awards (MY Awards), Special Recognition Awards, and Lifetime Achievement Awards.
Each category aims to spotlight exceptional contributions to Antigua and Barbuda’s music scene during the eligibility period of December 2023 to November 2024.
Musician of the Year Awards (MY Awards) will celebrate talent across disciplines, including instrumentalists, vocalists, and steelpan performers.
Subcategories such as Soca Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, and Disc Jockey of the Year will showcase the breadth of Antiguan and Barbudan talent.
Special Recognition Awards will honor individuals and organizations with over 10 years of impactful contributions to the music industry, while the Lifetime Achievement Awards will highlight those with at least two decades of distinguished service to the field.
The nomination process encourages participation from industry associations and the public, fostering a community-driven approach to recognizing excellence. Some awards, like Producer of the Year and Sound of the Year, will even feature people’s choice voting via the web.
The Ministry emphasized the ABNMAs’ potential to elevate the standards of music creation, performance, and innovation, enhancing Antigua and Barbuda’s music culture both locally and globally.
Stay tuned for more updates as anticipation builds for this landmark event celebrating the island’s rich musical heritage.
