Antigua and Barbuda continues to hold its reputation as the Caribbean’s safest destination, Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez has said.

He credits the island’s strong safety record for attracting a growing number of visitors, with the nation recently celebrating a milestone—welcoming its one-millionth visitor in a single year.

However, Fernandez warned that new US tariffs introduced by President Donald Trump could affect tourism. Despite this, he remains optimistic, noting that many Canadian travelers are now choosing the Caribbean over the US.

“People in Canada are cancelling vacations to the US and looking to the Caribbean, with Antigua as the top choice,” he said.

He added that Antigua and Barbuda’s status as a high-end destination means visitors are less affected by economic concerns, which bodes well for the industry.

  1. Tourism growth is great, but I hope this also means better wages and working conditions for industry workers.
