Antigua and Barbuda’s Global Cybersecurity Standing Ranked in New Global Index

Antigua and Barbuda has been classified in the lowest tier, Tier 5, in the latest edition of the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) 2024, placing it among the nations with the most nascent cybersecurity measures.

According to the report, this highlights the nation’s limited progress in establishing and developing cybersecurity structures, policies, and cooperation frameworks necessary for combating cyber threats.

Key Findings of the Report:
The Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) ranks nations across five key pillars: legal measures, technical measures, organizational measures, capacity development, and cooperation.

Antigua and Barbuda’s positioning indicates an urgent need for the country to enhance its cybersecurity readiness, particularly by improving legal frameworks, technical expertise, and fostering public-private partnerships.

Despite Antigua and Barbuda’s inclusion in international cybersecurity agreements, the country struggles with domestic implementation and operationalizing these agreements effectively.

The GCI recommends that nations like Antigua and Barbuda, categorized as “Building” in cybersecurity, prioritize the establishment of Computer Incident Response Teams (CIRTs) and adopt national cybersecurity strategies.

The report’s emphasis on international cooperation also points to potential opportunities for Antigua and Barbuda to engage more robustly with regional cybersecurity organizations and initiatives.

These efforts can help bolster the nation’s defense against cyber threats, especially as digitalization continues to expand across sectors like finance, telecommunications, and government services.

The Global Cybersecurity Index 2024 presents a challenge for Antigua and Barbuda to step up its efforts in securing its digital infrastructure and protecting its citizens from growing cyber risks.

The government is expected to prioritize policy frameworks and technical upgrades in the near future to avoid further lagging behind in the global cybersecurity landscape.

  1. I’ve worked in IT for 16 years and I had no idea Antigua has a Director of Cybersecurity. Where does she work? What does she do?

  2. How can we focus on cybersecurity when everything in antigua is still manual. The government places writing everything and still using file cabinets.
The Older workers are afraid of change so when the technological changes come they will argue why change it in fear that the younger tech savy workers are gonna take their job.
Improve our digital aspect and then we can improve the cyber security.

  3. Antigua and barbuda let us trade some of the land for cyber security. They let Chinese take over whole aerospace why not let small business minority business myself in usa provide cyber security for exchange of land . I m down for it
