The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) collected EC$377.9 million in taxes during the first six months of 2026, marking a strong increase over the same period last year.
Figures released by the department show collections rose by EC$38 million from EC$339.9 million recorded by the end of June 2025. Revenue has also grown steadily over the past three years, increasing from EC$290.2 million in the first half of 2024.
The IRD said the improved performance was driven by stronger enforcement and more efficient tax administration. Measures included legal action against delinquent taxpayers, expanded audits, intensified efforts to recover outstanding tax arrears, and improved compliance with filing and payment requirements.
Officials said the continued growth reflects the department’s commitment to strengthening tax compliance and improving revenue collection across Antigua and Barbuda.

They just put out the information the other day, then they came out immediately after and mentioned that they were working with a surplus, then they mentioned they have cut the Chinese debt to half and have lowered the debt to GDP ratio to 62%..so why borrow more money GB?
These people are so all over the damn place, it makes my head scratch. They are like dysfunctional wife, who as soon as they see the money comes in, they want to go shopping and spend..they can’t keep quiet for one bit.
Does this government have a spending habit that needs some serious therapy? And when they spend money, a pure foolishness they spent it on, typically themselves.
The problem with tax here in Antigua is that for the most part it’s the Customs department that is responsible for the assessing the bulk of it.
Even though there are systems in place, the Customs officers show favoritism depending on how much $$ you give them. You want a container cleared? Someone has a friend or relative who works at the port and in Customs who for $$$ will help out.
Inland revenue will collect what is submitted yes, but all down the line from people submitting false invoices, to brokers, to customs officers are all helping cheat the system out of taxes.
Deep Water Harbor is the biggest collector of revenue, but also where the most of it is not being assessed. Put a clamp down there and you will see how much more is being collected.
Wow! that is plenty money in six months. I always thought that Customs was the biggest collector of government’s revenue. Looks like IRD is number one.
