Diplomats from Antigua and Barbuda have convened for a three-day event, Diplomatic Encounter, focusing on aligning foreign policy with national priorities. The forum, hosted by Foreign Affairs Minister E.P. Chet Greene, is taking place at the Royalton Hotel.

The event opened with a reception at Dow’s Hill Interpretation Centre, followed by an official ceremony this morning. Ambassador Clarence Pilgrim, Permanent Secretary in the Foreign Affairs Ministry, stressed the importance of strategic engagement, transparency, and collaboration in diplomacy.

Keynote speaker Ambassador Martin Kimani, head of the African Center in New York, highlighted climate threats, debt, and political instability as critical challenges for Small Island Developing States (SIDS). He commended Antigua and Barbuda’s active role in global responses.

Minister Greene emphasized the need for resilience in tackling climate change, economic inequality, and human rights. The conference continues with ambassadorial roundtable discussions before concluding on Wednesday.

  1. You know it is so great to see how this government has taken governing the country to the next level. I don’t think we have ever seen this high level of engagement before. First we host SIDS. Soon we’ll be hosting CTO and then OACS and thereafter COMMONWEALTH. Antigua and Barbuda is surely on the map of having punch way above our weight. A small country hosting big world conferences. Some of these participants may have never heard or dreamed about us. A small dot in the ocean. Among the smallest of the Caribbean Islands. With the present slate of candidates and the inept leader, the UPP will never be able to reach that height. It would be like what Baldwin Spencer said when they won the 2004 election. “wah ar we gon du now”. He was totally clueless as how to run the country. And the learning curve was very long and we suffered because of that. That is why the smart boys back up their trucks and started to cash in.
