Antigua and Barbuda High Commission in London Holds Talks Ahead of CHOGM 2026

1

The Antigua and Barbuda High Commission in the United Kingdom held diplomatic meetings last week with representatives of two Commonwealth nations as preparations continue for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) scheduled to be hosted by Antigua and Barbuda later this year.

The mission reported “productive diplomatic engagements” with H.E. Mosuoe Letuma, High Commissioner of the Kingdom of Lesotho, and H.E. Pengiran Norazmi bin Haji Muhammed, High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam.

According to the High Commission, discussions focused on the upcoming CHOGM 2026, which Antigua and Barbuda will host in November.

Officials said the country is looking forward to welcoming Commonwealth leaders and delegates for the gathering, which is expected to bring heads of government and senior officials from across the Commonwealth to the twin-island state.

Antigua and Barbuda will become the first country in the Eastern Caribbean to host the meeting, one of the most significant events on the Commonwealth calendar.

  1. What, I wonder, would be on the Agenda for discussion at this meeting?
What topics are of extreme urgency to be tackled in a serious manner, that would affect all Commonwealth Nations?
Or is this going to be another vacation shop talk, with visiting dignataries mouthing platitudes that do not result in meaningful impact on the inhabitants of their individual countries?
It all remains to be seen.
However, Antigua and Barbuda, put on a show of our artistic skills, our culinary arts, our agricultural products and by-products, showcase our sights and highlight our need for upgrades, show where we are already upgrading, send the message that we do not just need tourists, but we also need investors willing to partner with local entrepreneurs.
Remember to keep alive our motto: Each endeavouring, All achieving.
