The government of Antigua and Barbuda will implement a comprehensive maintenance program for government buildings starting in 2025.

Housing Minister Maria Browne, speaking during the 2025 Budget Debate, detailed the initiative aimed at ensuring government facilities are properly maintained and operational.

“For far too long, maintenance has been reactive rather than proactive,” Minister Browne stated.

“This new program will allow us to address issues before they become major problems, ensuring that our buildings are safe, functional, and conducive to productivity.”

The program will include routine inspections, detailed assessments, and a structured schedule for repairs and upgrades across government facilities. It will cover essential services such as plumbing, electrical systems, air conditioning, and structural integrity.

Minister Browne highlighted specific challenges that have plagued government buildings, including leaking roofs and deteriorating infrastructure.

“We’ve already taken steps to address these issues, such as acquiring a specialized epoxy coating to repair leaking concrete roofs, which will provide a 15-20 year guarantee against leaks,” she explained.

The maintenance program will also incorporate regular checks on workplace safety and comfort, ensuring employees across all ministries have a secure and healthy environment. “Providing a safe workplace is not just our responsibility—it’s our obligation,” the minister emphasized.

Additionally, the initiative will involve collaboration with various ministries to prioritize critical repairs. “We are listening to the concerns raised by public sector employees and taking decisive action to resolve them,” Browne added.

The program is part of a broader strategy to modernize public infrastructure and reduce costly emergency repairs.

Damn Maria could you be just a itzy, teeny, tiny, bitzy bit more creative. Allegedly, you have since acquired some ‘higher learning’ to assist you in this regard. Please stop with the refurbished bullshit.
