The Ministry of Education in Antigua and Barbuda is reimbursing more than one million dollars to parents and guardians who had already paid for their children to sit the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) exams in May and June 2026.

Director of Education Clare Browne said schools have received the funds and are now in the process of returning them to parents.

“Some people travelled… and now everybody is back. School is about to start again, so those parents who have not received a refund can look forward to getting it,” she added.

The move fulfils a government commitment announced by Prime Minister Gaston Browne in his December budget presentation, under which the state will cover exam fees going forward.

Officials said the initiative is part of broader efforts to ease inflationary pressures on families while ensuring students are not barred from sitting examinations due to financial constraints.

  1. ME WAH ME FUCKIN’ BACKPAY!
YOU SHOULDA GIVEN ME WHAT YOU’VE OWED FOR YEARS BEFORE YOU GAVE MONEY TO PEOPLE WHO CHOOSE FU BREED!

  2. Where are the funds coming from? It’s crazy how we see a lot of high figures but they will still say the country has no money….. hmmmm

  3. I would like to know how these educational institutions will run when no tuition is being paid. With all the complaints about no money, I would think that they would subsidize tuition rather than opt to make it completely free. Nothing is really free anyway! Will taxes increase? What in the world is going on here? I hope that the government will pay the tuition for every child because the institutions will not run on air or fart…however gassy the government is! And it seems that some administrators were created to kiss butt…they absorb every dirty wind that flies by and don’t ask the important million dollar questions. What about the sustainability of those institutions? This should not be all about politics and stroking egos! There are civil servants that have not been paid for months!
