CABINET NOTES- The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has renewed and intensified its call for the immediate removal of derelict vehicles from public streets and roadways across the nation.

As part of its broader commitment to the beautification and environmental enhancement of the island, Cabinet emphasized that the continued presence of these abandoned vehicles presents not only an eyesore, but also public health and safety risks, and is a clear violation of national litter and sanitation laws.

Cabinet has directed the relevant authorities, including the Royal Police Force, the Antigua and Barbuda Transport Board, and local government departments, to move swiftly and decisively to identify and remove all derelict vehicles.

Furthermore, individuals who fail to comply or who are found in breach of existing litter laws will be fined and prosecuted, as the government moves to enforce environmental regulations with renewed urgency.

In addition, Cabinet has issued a directive for the immediate removal of all abandoned boats from fisheries complexes across the country.

The operation will begin with the fisheries complex at Point, where a designated area is being cleared to facilitate the construction of a new office complex for the Antigua and Barbuda Department of Marine Services (ADOMS).

Cabinet reiterated that these efforts are part of a larger national strategy to:

  • Promote civic pride and community responsibility
  • Prepare key sites for economic and infrastructural development
  • Ensure that public spaces are safe, clean, and representative of a modern, forward-looking Antigua and Barbuda

The government urges all citizens to cooperate with these initiatives and take personal responsibility for maintaining the cleanliness and visual appeal of their surroundings.

Cabinet made it clear: the era of neglecting public space is over, and enforcement will be robust, consistent, and unrelenting.

  1. Stop the import of tin can cars. Cars that come from disaster flood zoons, etc. refurbished and sold to our citizens for cheap. One accident and the tin can is destroyed and ends up all over the island abandoned. It’s the governments fault for allowing this to go on for years. Clean up can’t hurt. How long will it last.

  2. Every time I hear this notice coming from the authorities I just have to laugh. Talk, talk, and no damn action, every single village you drive through whether it’s in the city or country you see this disgusting foolishness. Bolans is a classic case, I have to drive through that village daily and the road where The Orchard Supermarket is located there are two old broken down Nissan vehicles parked on that road that need to be removed, I keep wondering if because they might have voted Labour they are untouchable, and both vehicles are not even parked properly on the road

  3. Time enough this is properly addressed, even these roadside mechanics keep taking up spaces on the roads people can’t even park in front their own homes and this is all over the country. The government talk but do nothing because all they think about are votes

  4. The part that hurt is the nuclear plant that was flooded and leaked contaminants that is cancerous unto the used cars that are shipped to Antigua cheap, Jamaica port that has machine to test for radiation had to turn back some, but Antigua have no such capabilities, so a nation could be coming down with sudden cancer from these contaminated vehicles.
