Government Complex Plans Moving Forward to Cut Rental Costs
The Government of Antigua and Barbuda is pressing ahead with plans to construct a centralized government complex west of Hadeed Motors, with preparations already underway to vacate the site for development.
Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant confirmed during the post-Cabinet briefing that the current occupier of the land is “making preparations to remove the heavy-duty equipment to vacate the premises.”
“Government is in the process of putting things in place to commence construction,” Merchant said, noting that the project remains a high priority for the administration.
He explained that the goal is to reduce the high cost of renting office space for government ministries and departments. “Government views this as being very important — to first rid itself of the high cost of rent that it finds itself in, renting premises to house government buildings,” he stated.
The planned complex is intended to bring key government services under one roof, improving operational efficiency and accessibility for the public. While a formal timeline for construction has not yet been released, officials have indicated that the groundwork is being laid to secure funding and begin development in the near future.

I wonder who got this contract to build Government office complex. I remember a young Gaston Brown cussing how the then administration created a monster in the Hadeeds, to a point where they were the only company who could mobilize the necessary capital and come up with the requisite performance Bond to even bid on the existing government complex!!! Could it be he and the black Hadeed in business now so everything good again?. Let’s see!!
We want good steady running water. You can’t even repair the cultural center. The Perry Bay complex look like shit. The car park needs to do something with, and you need bandages at your hospital. now you are building another white elephant.
Again they are leaving something that the govt already has, the Sunshine Car park, to put us in further debt with this new place.
