Antigua and Barbuda’s government has moved forward with renovations at a key community training centre, with reopening expected in the first week of December.
Minister Rawdon Turner, responsible for the facility, conducted a walkthrough on Tuesday to assess progress. The centre has been closed for some time while upgrades are made to improve its layout and functionality.
Turner said the government’s intervention was crucial in funding the project. “With the support of Cabinet and the government, renovations are now in full swing. I’m pleased with the progress so far and believe we can look forward to reopening in the first week of December,” he told ABS News.
During the visit, Turner met with project manager Mrs. Phillips to make adjustments to the facility’s layout, aiming to ensure smooth operations and meet the needs of users. The minister stressed the government’s commitment to infrastructure improvements across the island to support continuous service delivery.

He also outlined the centre’s broader mission, emphasising inclusivity. “We want this place to become a full training facility. Many speak of disability, but for me, it’s just challenges. Everyone completes tasks differently. This centre will focus on helping individuals become functional and independent in daily life,” Turner said.
Ronald Greenway, the centre’s director, said renovations will allow for specialised areas where multiple types of training can take place simultaneously. He added that the centre aims to help individuals achieve various levels of independence and integration into the community.
Greenway called on members of the public to volunteer their skills and time once the facility reopens, noting that employees may not have all the expertise required to fully serve the differently abled community.
