The Antigua and Barbuda Fire Department has commissioned five new fire appliances, including four Volvo trucks and a ladder truck from Eagle International, enhancing the nation’s emergency response capabilities.
Fire Chief ACP Vivian Parker emphasized the importance of reliable equipment for national security, highlighting features such as thermal imaging cameras, Jaws of Life, and portable breathing apparatus.
Acting Commissioner of Police Everton Jeffers stressed the need for both training and equipment for effective firefighting.
Eagle International’s Managing Director, Jonathan Munro Ford, expressed pride in delivering the trucks and outlined plans to establish Antigua and Barbuda as a regional hub for firefighting and security services.
Attorney General Sir Steadroy Benjamin reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fire safety, announcing the procurement of additional fire tenders.
The ceremony, held at the St. John’s Fire Station, featured a blessing, a symbolic handover of keys, and a demonstration of the new equipment’s capabilities.

Long overdue! Hope these new trucks are properly maintained for years to come.
More trucks, but what about better water access? Hydrants and resources need to be improved too.
Will these trucks be evenly distributed across the island? Because some areas are more vulnerable.
Good move, but don’t forget fire prevention education for the public!
It was about time, so long we were waiting for new equipment… SMH
LMAO…. Taxpayers’ money well spent. But anyways Fire safety is not something to compromise on.
