Antigua and Barbuda’s senior men’s volleyball team suffered a straight-sets defeat to Cuba in their Group A opener at the XVIII Pan-American Cup in Leon, Mexico.

Cuba dominated the match, taking the sets 25-19, 25-10, and 25-17, despite spirited rallies from the Caribbean side.

Other day-one results saw Chile beat the Dominican Republic 3-1, Canada defeat Puerto Rico 3-1, and Venezuela overcome the USA in straight sets. Hosts Mexico routed Suriname 3-0, while Colombia triumphed over Guatemala 3-0.

Teams compete in three groups, with progression to the next round determined by group standings. Antigua and Barbuda face the USA on Wednesday at 10:00 local time, followed by a clash with Venezuela on Thursday. The tournament concludes on 31 August.

  1. Even though they lost, this is a major milestone for Antigua and Barbuda volleyball. We’re on the international stage now, no turning back.

  2. First Pan-Am Cup, first match, against one of the best in the hemisphere. The scoreline doesn’t matter as much as the fact we’re finally competing at this level.
