Antigua and Barbuda Engages in Strategic Discussions with Saudi Fund for Development on University Expansion

7

Pursuant to the loan agreement entered into by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda with the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) for the expansion and development of the University of the West Indies Five-Islands Campus, The Minister of Education, Sports and the Creative Industries, Daryll Matthew, conducted discussions on Monday 5th June, 2023 to Wednesday 7th June, 2023 with members of the Saudi Fund for Development Team to strategize plans for such expansion and development.

The discussions on the Agenda covered various aspects such as the engagement of a local  consultant, the design phases of the project which addresses the immediate need for necessary buildings to be constructed, the procurement process for various packages associated with the  project and the construction of new facilities such as dormitories on the university campus.

The benefit of the discussions held will also help to address the immediate need for the  development of a new Five Islands Primary School, support the employment of local sub contractors along with relatively similar classes of workers in this development and generate new  streams of income to assist in enhancing Antigua and Barbuda’s academic endeavours.

Additionally, mutually agreed timelines for the phase of the project were discussed and agreed  upon by the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) Team and the Government of Antigua and  Barbuda.

  1. Our government at work. All the ministers are performing at an extremely high level. I cannot imagine any of the UPP members representing us at such high levels. Antigua would have been the laughingstock of the Caribbean by then.

  2. @Sideline, now it’s clear that you are just an ALP prostitute. In an article dated December 17th 2022, after parliament was dissolved, Gaston Browne got 80 million US from the Saudis, for UWI Five Island campus expansion. Now they are at it again? Begging for money for the same reason? When will this idiot stop burrowing Antigua and Barbuda into oblivion debt? This incompetent government leaks money like a sieve leaks water. Where the hell is the 80 million US, approved on December 17th last year? Was it used for buying the election? My God man! The borrowings are way over 100 plus and counting. This is just mismanagement and incompetence at it nightmarish WORST.

    • By opening your mouth, you have removed all doubt from the mind of the readers about how dumb you really are.
This meeting is about the very same loan. It’s now about deciding about how the drawdown will take place. I really feel sorry for you guys’ intellectual capacity. You think when the loan was approved that is it. Money will now just flow. Now it is that the technicians go to work, to oversee the project to ensure there is no cost overrun and make sure that there is value for money. It is because of these reasons why the UPP make so many mistakes, like when they went to purchase a power plant. They trusted the people blindly. The lesson they learned was very costly for us taxpayers. We now have a debt of US$50million to repay and nothing to show for it. This alone should let us make sure these idiots never get anywhere close to the power of our purse. They squander our monies.

  3. The executive with “a major financial institution” continues to F&%k It Up! when he considers this “performing at a high level” with no information such as:
    How much is the loan?
What are the terms of the loan?
Those are basic questions for 3rd. Form student in Algebra 1.
But in a low performance government, the only thing that matters is all about “the drawdowns”

  4. If The Bloviator Brown and his ambassador knew how to negotiate, Harvard University would have been the party to finance Five Islands at no cost to Antigua.
Further, it was not to long ago that in the Cabinet Report as carried in this website, that a Saudi businessman was in discussions to buy several beach land. Connect the dots.

  5. Harvard College and Harvard University Law School were financed by the Antigua based slaveholders “Royall” who made their fortune on the backs of Antigua slaves.
Rather than negotiating for real reparations that results in generational economic educational and cultural parity, Bloviator Brown took chicken feed.
