(Antigua and Barbuda Emergency Medical Services (ABEMS) Implements Strategic Plans for Carnival Season 2024)
The Antigua and Barbuda Emergency Medical Services (ABEMS) has announced the comprehensive strategic plan to ensure the highest quality of prehospital care for the citizens, residents, and visitors of Antigua and Barbuda during the festive Carnival Season 2024.
ABEMS is committed to maintaining safety and providing swift medical responses during the carnival celebrations.
To ensure readiness and prompt response, two ambulances and four highly trained Medics/EMTs will be stationed at Carnival City, with operations commencing one hour before showtime.
Additionally, one Field Supervisor will rove around Carnival City and the ABEMS base to assist with the well-being of staff and equipment.
At ABEMS Headquarters on University Drive, two fully equipped ambulances, two rapid response units, and eight medics will be on duty, prepared to respond and support field medics.
A medical outpost/triage area will be set up at ABEMS Headquarters on July 27th for T-Shirt Mass from 12 midday to 12 midnight, and on August 5th and 6th, 2024.
This area will feature two tents, two ambulances, medical equipment, cots, and six highly trained Medics/EMTs to support Mount St. John’s Medical Center (MSJMC) and manage alcohol-intoxicated patients.
More serious cases will be transported to SLBMC for advanced care.
To ensure comprehensive coverage, medics equipped with medical bags, AEDs, and communication devices will be posted in different areas around St. John’s City on Carnival Monday and Tuesday.
All ambulances and medical outposts will be equipped with AEDs and necessary medical supplies.
