The Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force (ABDF) commemorated its 44th Anniversary with a Black Bow Tie Formal Cocktail Reception at Camp Blizzard on Saturday, September 6, 2025.

The elegant evening brought together military officials, dignitaries, and invited guests to celebrate the proud legacy and achievements of the Force over the past four decades.

The event featured cultural performances, tributes, and ceremonial toasts in honour of His Majesty The King and the Nation.

The abridged programme included a Pan Selection, a Fire Show, and a special multimedia presentation of the ABDF’s history and contributions.

Congratulatory remarks were delivered by Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier Telbert Benjamin, and by the Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda and Commander-in-Chief, His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams.

In his remarks, His Excellency commended the ABDF for their consistent support to the Office of the Governor General, referencing in particular the Force’s recent work in repainting the Government House perimeter wall.

He further highlighted their collaboration with the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda in strengthening national security.

His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams joins Brigadier Telbert Benjamin and Mrs. Benjamin in raising a toast during the Anniversary Reception.

His Excellency also conveyed apologies on behalf of the Honourable Prime Minister Gaston Browne, who was unable to attend as he is representing Antigua and Barbuda abroad at the 2nd Africa, CARICOM Summit in Ethiopia.

The Summit, held under the theme “Transcontinental Partnership in Pursuit of Reparatory Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations”, builds on the African Union, CARICOM Memorandum of Understanding on strengthening engagement and fostering linkages between Africa and the Caribbean.

Brigadier Benjamin, in his address, reflected on the achievements of the ABDF over its 44-year history and outlined strategic plans for its future growth and service to the nation.

During the evening, His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams raised a toast to His Majesty The King, followed by a toast to the Nation and Unit Toasts offered by other speakers.

The occasion was marked by camaraderie and pride in the Force’s contribution to Antigua and Barbuda.

In the lead-up to the anniversary, His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams, accompanied by the Honourable Prime Minister Gaston Browne, toured Camp Blizzard on Thursday, September 4, 2025, alongside Brigadier Telbert Benjamin and senior ABDF officers.

The tour highlighted the Force’s ongoing development, operational readiness, and facilities.

  2. It’s nice to see the Governor General acknowledging their efforts, especially projects like refurbishing Government House. Concrete contributions like that make a difference.
