Antigua and Barbuda marked their National Day at the Osaka-Kansai Expo with a vibrant display of culture, heritage, and commitment to sustainable development.

Speaking at the event, E.P. Chet Greene, Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister, welcomed officials, diplomats, and visitors to the pavilion.

He described the islands as “a vibrant democracy, a land of warm and friendly people, with a rich heritage and a culture full of imagination and heart.”

Greene highlighted the nation’s African, European, and Caribbean influences, noting the role of music, art, and traditional crafts in connecting Antiguans and Barbudans with their ancestors. He said: “But what truly defines us are our people — their spirit, imagination, and infinite warmth.”

The pavilion, themed “Saving Lives,” focuses on environmental conservation, cultural preservation, and economic innovation.

Exhibits include successful biodiversity restoration projects led by the Environmental Awareness Group, marine ecosystem initiatives in the English Harbour area, and the 3 Provinces Revitalization Project, which combines sustainable materials with artistic displays of the nation’s cultural heritage.

Greene emphasised Antigua and Barbuda’s long-standing relationship with Japan, dating back to 1982.

He credited Japanese support in areas such as seawater desalination and water resource management for helping the islands address environmental vulnerabilities.

“Japan’s commitment to global cooperation and sustainability has been invaluable,” he said.

Tourism was also highlighted as a key feature of the pavilion. Greene encouraged visitors to explore the islands beyond the Expo, noting Antigua’s 365 pristine beaches, historic sites, and world-class resorts.

“We invite you to come and see the beauty of Antigua and Barbuda for yourself,” he added.

The Minister concluded by thanking the Japanese government, Expo organisers, the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, and all partners who contributed to the pavilion’s success.

He stressed that the celebration of National Day at the Expo reinforces the islands’ commitment to peace, sustainability, and cultural exchange.
