Government Employees Locked Out for Third Day Over Unpaid $8M Rent

Ryan building

Government employees from three agencies remain locked out of their workplace for a third day after finding the building secured with a padlock on Monday. Paul Ryan, owner of the Ryan Group of Companies, confirmed the lockout continues as the government seeks a resolution. He cited over $8 million in unpaid rent as the cause. The building houses the Bureau of Standards, the Ministry of Works Project Implementation Unit, and various Survey Departments.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces that the Antigua and Barbuda Bureau of Standards is currently undergoing a relocation process.

Ambassador Clarence Pilgrim, Permanent Secretary advises that the Bureau is temporarily closed until further notice.

This closure is due to the ongoing retrofitting of the building that will house the Bureau in the near future.

The necessary steps to rectify and prepare the new facility are being implemented promptly.

The Ministry assures the public that these adjustments are part of a larger initiative to improve the Bureau’s services and infrastructure.

Further updates regarding the reopening and any additional changes to the Bureau’s operations will be provided as soon as they are available.

We appreciate your understanding and patience during this transitional period.

  2. Hmmm… I doubt this has anything to do with locked gates on the property and millions of dollars allegedly owned to the landlord… The Ryan Group has more patience than my company! Imagine being an employee of that building, arriving to work this morning to see locked gates, being sent home and then reading the above. This is comedy.

The official government spin doctor employee has been kept very busy recently with trying to create a favorable interpretation of certain current events.

  3. Me tired of this!. Enter into some arrangement and agreement with Sir George Ryan such that things can be normalized. I know it took a lot for Mr Ryan to reach this boiling point. Government must pay its local creditors and cease this BS. Our wasteful habits coming back to haunt us. All this nonesense about the booming state of the economy yet we can’t even pay our rent. Give me an ASPIRIN!

  4. Any particular reason for a repetition of this story? Didn’t you collect enough sputum the first time around? Does Phillip have a chapter three??

  5. I thought they said they had a building ear marked and it was being retrofitted and upgraded and bla bla bla b.s. as usual

  6. Oh Lord. So while government collecting funds from people that owe them they negligent on their rent payment.
I strongly believe all government agencies should be housed in one building.
I hope they can come to a resolution soon. I’m sure the workers happy for the little break

  7. More Chinese money to be borrowed of course, that’s all. Deeper and deeper in Chinese debt we go..

Who can even trust the decisions of this government right now, who?

  8. I wonder who that building will be owned by. Government? G*ston’s son? Hope they get their rent on time.
