Antigua and Barbuda has rejected US President Donald Trump’s dismissal of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) as ineffective.
Speaking in New York, Mr Trump questioned the purpose of the UN, claiming it offered only “empty words” and labelling climate change a “con job”.
But Cabinet Spokesperson Maurice Merchant said Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s participation was vital for Antigua and Barbuda, especially on climate change and small island issues.

“Many countries rely on Antigua and Barbuda’s voice,” Mr Merchant said, adding that bilateral talks had already produced “very successful” outcomes.
Mr Browne is attending UNGA80 with Foreign Minister E.P. Chet Greene, Health Minister Sir Molwyn Joseph, Ambassador Walton Webson and other officials.
