Antigua and Barbuda Aims for LIAT’s Return to Skies by April’s End

A government spokesperson stated that efforts to have LIAT back in the skies by the end of April are progressing as planned.

The spokesperson, speaking at a post-cabinet media briefing, expressed confidence in the timeline set by shareholder governments.

“At the last reporting, the lease for an aircraft was approved by the administrator of the airline. The necessary funds have already been allocated, and the Caribbean Development Bank is awaiting the determination from the administrator and the court on how to proceed with the sale of the aircraft and the funds have been procured. I am persuaded that everything is on course for the timeline that was originally announced,” the spokesperson said.

LIAT’s shareholders are working to acquire three aircraft in the initial phase of the airline’s reintroduction.

Antigua and Barbuda, as a leading financier of LIAT (2020), is prepared to spend approximately US$12 million to purchase three ATR 42-600 aircraft for LIAT to service its route network spanning over eight countries and territories.

  1. Huh? Did I just read this correctly? Barbados, Dominica, and St Vincent are shareholders and part of this venture?

    Wait wait wait..where did this information come from?

    Wasn’t it just Gatson Browne and Air Peace who were involved in this deal?

    This must be a miss print or click bait to rarse.

    Just amazing. I really don’t know what to believe with this fork tongue administration, for real.

    I have been like the loan wolf in the night.
    Seems like I hope I’ve found a companion.
    Antigua is taking over the loan all the previous owners of LIAT were responsible for. The loan was with the Caribbean Development Bank

    If one reviews all the PR articles going back to March 2023 (beside those the Camaroon Air Antigua debacle, what you’ll find is that first a private Chinese investor was going to be investing in to LIAT(2020). That disappeared just like the African migrants issue disappeared from the media.
    Then came Air Peace followed by Nigerian dancers for Carnival for Air Peace maiden flight to and all sort of African Heritage Festival and direct link were thrown in the air.
    Each PR statement contained differing information the status of LIAT((2020)
    A moment of note was the signing of partnership with Air Peace which took place in Nairobi by MP Chet Greene, Minister of Foreign Affairs (not the Ministers of Aviation or the Prime Minister)
    In each of the PR statements which followed the signing of The agreement; one and only one element of the deal remains constant. That is the 70% Air Peace and 30% Antigua ownership structure
    The amount being negotiated with the Caribbean Development Bank (CBD) constantly changed from $40 million to $60 million sometimes $80 million
    That loan to LIAT (2020) is suppose to be the amount outstanding in 2 aircrafts that LIAT (1974) has had with CDB.
    The fluctuating figure between $60 million and $80 million may be additional to cover working capital and repair 2 older aircraft owned by LIAT (1974) that Antigua will be adding to the fleet. But as they changed and Antigua put more into the venture of LIAT(2020); Antigua ownership percentage remains 30%
    Now we are being told Antigua is spending approximately US$12 million to purchase three ATR 42-600 aircraft for LIAT to service its route network. No explanation for that number.
    That means Antigua is bringing the following to LIAT (2020) venture:
    •4 aircrafts (2 relatively late models ) and 2 refurbished aircrafts
    Antigua is also bringing.
    •Brand and market goodwill across the market service area.
    •A hanger and terminal
    Air Peace brings
    •2 aircrafts
    The above numbers has fluctuated over the last year with no questions from the public other than “what’s taking so long” we need LIAT
    One group of number that has not changed is the 70/30 split in ownership’s of LIAT(2020)
    I have written in the past that Air Peace should not have more than 30 % ownership of LIAT (2020) and that up to 40% of LIAT(2020) is being held by Air Peace for undisclosed partners.
