
Antigua and Barbuda records distant 4.1 magnitude earthquake, no immediate impact reported
An A magnitude 4.1 earthquake was recorded in the region on Friday evening, according to the Seismic Research Centre (SRC) of the University of the West Indies.
The quake occurred at 5:26 p.m. local time at a depth of 142 kilometres, with its epicentre located at latitude 17.94 north and longitude 63.46 west.
The SRC reported that the earthquake was approximately 201 kilometres southeast of St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda. It was also located about 107 kilometres southeast of Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and 188 kilometres southeast of Brades, Montserrat.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries in Antigua and Barbuda.
The SRC noted that the location was automatically generated by computer algorithms and may be subject to revision following further analysis.
