Anthony Smith Promises More Information on UPP Departure
Anthony Smith, who recently took on the role of Minister of Agriculture, Lands, Fisheries, and the Blue Economy, has assured residents that he will provide more details about his departure from the United Progressive Party (UPP) at a later date.
In a recent interview, Smith addressed the mixed reactions from residents of All Saints West regarding his decision. “I understand that some people are hurt by my decision to withdraw my allegiance from the UPP,” he said.
“However, I want everyone to know that my primary goal is to serve the people of All Saints West and Antigua and Barbuda.”
Reflecting on his journey, Smith mentioned that his decision to leave the UPP was not taken lightly.
“It was a tough decision, and I have battled with it for some time,” he explained.
“My values and the direction of the party were no longer aligned, and I felt it was in the best interest of my constituents and the country to make this change.”
Smith promised to provide more details about his decision at a later date, ensuring transparency and open communication with the public. “I will make myself available to the media and the people to discuss this further when the time is right,” he assured.
Smith emphasized the importance of putting nation-building above partisan politics. “Nation development should always come first in whatever we decide to do as politicians,” he stated. Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Gaston Browne for entrusting him with the responsibilities of his new ministry, he highlighted his commitment to ensuring food security and advancing the blue economy.

Listening to some of the callers to the radio, many talk about how people should not just get vex and leave soon as disagreements crop up in the party, etc.
Most of these, especially members of the UPP, choose to ignore the many disturbing events that have been taking place in the party. One example is the deliberate cheating in the elections during the past two conventions.
Even though some of them feel there was cheating, they think the best thing to do is to forget it and move on together.
It doesn’t work like that. What about the feelings of those who felt cheated? Many knew that the same rules and code of ethics established by the leaders to ensure the integrity of the elections were broken, both times, by those who were enforcing them.
Are those who were cheated supposed to sing kumbyah and not speak out? Of course, it is known that to speak out is to be ostracized.
UPP people are not real. That is why the party has so much setbacks. All the nonsense that went on is beginning to catch up with the party.
This is naked opportunism and greed.
Son of a bitch can’t even face the CAMERA, HIPOCRITE in all capital letters…disgraceful to Country and people…
Excellent move from my vantage point, you have a real opportunity to serve the people of All Saints West. I want to Congratulate you on your new appointment and I’m absolutely sure that you will succeed in both satisfying his consistency and taking agriculture in Antigua and Barbuda to new heights.
