The Department of Environment says the Green Climate Fund (GCF) last month approved US$ 3million to help Antigua & Barbuda adapt to climate change.<\/p>

The funds are for use over the next three years according to officials.<\/p>\n

To date, Antigua and Barbuda has received two capacity building or \u201cReadiness\u201d grants totaling USD 900,000 from the GCF.<\/p>

The department as the National Designated Authority to the Green Climate Fund along with the Ministry of Finance seeks to advise all agencies, civil society organization and the general public of the pending Mission of the Green Climate Fund to the Caribbean on December 10 \u2013 19, 2017. Antigua and Barbuda will be the first country in the Green Climate Fund\u2019s itinerary, arriving on island 10th<\/sup> December and departing the 13th<\/sup> December.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The Green Climate Fund, or \u201cGCF\u201d, is a financial mechanism under the Climate Change Convention and the Paris Agreement, which helps fund climate finance investment in low-emission, climate-resilient development through mitigation and adaptation projects and programmes in developing countries.<\/p>\n

This mission is part of the Fund\u2019s thrust to improve communication and information dissemination with Caribbean constituents based on the importance for the GCF on building country programmes and country-owned pipeline of projects\/programmes in the region and among Small Island Developing States (SIDS).<\/p>

This mission aims to accelerate the region\u2019s engagement with the Fund, in particular in the aftermath of the devastating hurricanes.\u00a0\u00a0 In addition to hurricanes, GCF is also concerned about slow events such as droughts and sea level rise that are also a result of climate change.<\/p>\n
