The Ministry of Education has taken a decision to close the St Mary\u2019s Secondary School until further notice due to the condition of the school since the heavy rainfall.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

According to education director, Clare Browne, \u201cThe Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has come to the decision that we will have to close the school until we can get things rectified down there.\u201d<\/p>\n

The director, who suggested that poor soil irrigation issues at the school problem posed a health risk, said it is not a situation that is conducive for students or teachers to be in.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Last week Wednesday the school had to close down for the same reason.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

More than three hundred students and staff members at the St. Mary Secondary School had to return home and according to the principal, Casey Phillip.<\/p>\n

Phillip explained that the rains affected the schoolyard but not the classrooms.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cThe condition is such that when it rains very heavily, the parking situation at the school for teachers is compromised badly. Teachers were unable to find proper parking, they were able to, for the most part, exit their vehicles without stepping into water, into mud, etc. That would have been going on for quite a while. The classroom are not affected, it is just the yard that is affected and so because teachers aren\u2019t able to park, they are not really able to come to work. \u201d said the principal.<\/p>\n

This is not a new occurrence at the school as a lack of proper drainage has been an issue on the compound yet to be resolved.<\/p>

Education Director Clare Browne says that the school was built on reclaimed land and so they have constantly been faced with a drainage challenge.<\/p>

While the ministry looks at the shortest possible time to resume classes, the Director Browne could not give a definite time as to when the school will be reopened.<\/p>\n
