The opposition United Progressive Party (UPP) wants a full investigation into monies that were allegedly stolen from ABLP Senator Michael Freeland.<\/p>

The Party\u2019s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Damani Tabor, explained the UPP\u2019s position and noted that \u201cThese are public funds and we call upon the government to have this fully investigated and the public apprised as to what really went down.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tabor said he just doesn\u2019t buy the explanation given in parliament by Leader of Government Business, Lennox Weston.<\/p>

\"\"<\/div>\n

\u201cEither the prime minister lied when he said it was a scandal, or Weston\u2019s lying when he said it\u2019s just a regular robbery,\u201d Tabor said.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

According to him, \u201cOne of them is lying and that fact alone must trigger a full investigation and then out of that would come recommendation of improvements to safeguard public funds.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy were these public funds not guarded, why weren\u2019t proper procedures in place and who can even believe that at an auction everything is cash and there are no cheques,\u201d Tabor questioned.<\/p>

In parliament on Monday November, 27th, 2017, Weston said that over $155,000 from an auction conducted by senator Michael Freeland was stolen and that the matter had been reported to the police.<\/p>\n

But subsequent to Weston\u2019s pronouncement, the leader of the ABLP, Gaston Browne announced that Freeland\u2019s name would be removed from the list of potential ABLP candidates in St John\u2019s Rural East constituency because of a \u201cserious issue\u201d.<\/p>
