Antigua and Barbuda is one of a number of Caribbean islands that will benefit from over US$100,000 thanks to a Celebrity T20 Cricket Hurricane Relief match organised by the University of the West Indies (UWI), Sagicor Financial Corporation and Flow Sports Premier.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Donations pledged during the event and a previous pledged donation by Sagicor Life of 100,000 USD, brought the total amount raised to 111,591.18 USD.
\nThat money will go towards rebuilding schools and hospitals in Caribbean countries most affected during the passage of hurricanes Irma and Maria earlier this year.<\/p>\n

According to a statement released by the UWI, hundreds of patrons turned out at the 3W’s Oval in Barbados for the Cricket Relief Benefit on Saturday, November 11th, 2017.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

There, they witnessed an impressive lineup of current and former West Indies and international cricket players, as well as regional government ministers and student athletes go head on in support of the relief effort.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The final roster on the evening included: Dale Richards, Leniko Boucher, Justin Bramble, Floyd Reifer, The UWI Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, Cameron Pennyfeather, Vasbert Drakes, Sulieman Benn, Fidel Edwards, Trinidad and Tobago Sport Minister Darryl Smith and Antigua and Barbuda Sports Minister, E.P Chet Greene for the Sagicor-UWI Icons XI.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Prime Ministers\u2019 XI team comprised Dwayne Smith, Omar Phillips, Shaquille Martina, Nicholas Kirton, Sherwin Campbell, Yohan Blake, Tino Best, Shamar Springer, Larry Joseph, Philip Defreitas, Carlos Maynard and Gilon Tyson.<\/p>

In the end, the Prime Ministers\u2019 XI won by 7 runs when rain forced the event to be cut short.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the initiative and his company\u2019s donation, Chief Executive Officer of Sagicor Life Eastern Caribbean, Donald Austin said, “This event presented us an opportunity to partner to meet another aspect of the need: the rebuilding of schools and returning children to classrooms and the restoration of healthcare facilities. This immediately resonated with us, as children and families are at the core of the Sagicor brand.\u201d<\/p>

Austin also took the opportunity to ask overseas partners with technical expertise, to contribute their time and manpower in whatever way they can.
\n“Let us get our children back to school,” he said.<\/p>

In a continued effort to truly \u201cRally \u2018round the West Indies\u201d, UWI has launched a number of other initiatives to support affected staff and students.<\/p>\n
