Wheels Supermarket on Wireless Road may just have to find another store manger in the very near future as its present manager, Vincent \u201cVere\u201d Cornelius, has decided to throw his hat into the political ring for the upcoming general elections in Antigua and Barbuda.<\/p>

In a constituency that, at present, has a lot of question marks surrounding candidates, would-be candidates and a, soon-to-be retired, mainstay of the community in former Prime Minister Sir Lester Bird, the Democratic National Alliance added one more wrinkle.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe time is ripe,\u201d said Vere of his timing for his first political foray.<\/p>

The incumbent Bird had been made aware that his political leader, Prime Minister Gaston Browne, would be seeking to replace the 79 year-old MP in the next general election through the reading it in the local newspaper.<\/p>

Since that time, two weeks ago, several Antigua Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) contenders have declared their interests publicly including the Prime Minister\u2019s wife, Maria Browne, and President of the Senate Alincia Williams-Grant.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith Lester Bird possibly leaving, there has been a lot of uncertainty in the constituency,\u201d said Cornelius.<\/p>

\u201cI am adopting a wait and see approach, but whoever it is I know I will beat them. Because as I said earlier tonight<\/a>, half the people in the area know me and I know the other half.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou speak to people within the community, and you are hearing that they are not getting any representation from the [ruling] party,\u201d explained Cornelius.<\/p>

The candidate went on to indicate that his knowledge of the constituency and its residents along with his willingness to work and interact with the people would put him in better standing to, \u201cbring that seat home.\u201d<\/p>

Another known contenders for Rural East is former Inspector of Police, Trevor Young (United Progressive Party).<\/p>\n
