Sales of yhe book commissioned by the Empire Sports Club to commemorate its 50-plus years of \u201cempowering Grays-Green people\u201d – Kicking Ball<\/em>\u00a0– got off to a rousing start this past Saturday evening.<\/p>

Over 100 copies were sold at the book-signing event held at the Multipurpose Cultural Center at Perry Bay.<\/p>\n

The proceeds will be going both toward the Greenbay Moravian Church development and the Empire club team advancement.<\/p>

\"\"<\/div>\n

Within the book\u2019s introduction it states that, \u201cthis is a historical account of the 50 + years since Empire\u2019s emergence and which is well documented in many pages that follow, provides ample testimony to the significant rise and relevance of what can only be described as a permanent and unshakable institution.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Former Empire football coach Clarence \u201cMax\u201d Martin commends that, \u201cthe genius of this book is that Reverend Nicholas didn\u2019t just sit down and write from out of his head. He interviewed 60 or 70 persons and documented all that history along the way.\u201d<\/p>\n

The book\u2019s author Reverend Joseph Emanuel Nicholas describes himself as one who, \u201cnever donned the Empire colors on the field of play but played an important roles beyond the touchline from water-carrier, boot carrier\/cleaner, administrator, motivator, super-fan and National Representative to President of the great institution.\u201d<\/p>

\u201cIt is important that this story be documented,\u201d\u00a0 Nicholas commented.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt helps the present generation to better understand where we\u2019ve come from and why they always need to strive for excellence and allows us the chance to take seriously the heritage we have so that future generations will benefit.\u201d<\/p>

Empire is the oldest football club on the island. All of its contemporary teams have disappeared such as Trojan, Rangers and Atomic. Yet, this mainstay has kept relevance in not only the football community, but the Antiguan community as well.<\/p>

The book sells for $50 and can be purchased by contacting any member of the Empire executive including current president of the Club Veron \u201cEpilus\u201d Edwards or the book launch\u2019s organizer, MP Winston Baldwin Spencer.<\/p>\n
