Maria Browne said she is ready for the rigours of a general election.\u00a0<\/span>Browne, the wife of Prime Minister Gaston Browne, said she is going to hit the ground running \u201cpretty soon\u201d in the St John\u2019s Rural East constituency.<\/span><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

She said she has been polled fairly well in the area, and added that she will get to know more individuals within the constituency, especially the youth.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) hopeful said she is looking forward to a primary in which she will come up against two other females, Alincia Grant, president of the Senate and Senator Shenella Govia.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cWell first of all I think that it is a good thing that there are two other females vying for the candidacy. I think that we definitely need a stronger female voice within the government alongside Minister (Samantha) Marshall, and I have absolutely no problem with that whatsoever,\u201d\u00a0 Browne, who views herself as an objective thinker and an honest person who has never had any issues with the law, noted.<\/span><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Browne dismissed claims that suggested that she was not very acquainted with the political landscape in Antigua and Barbuda or the constituency.<\/span><\/p>\n

She said she cannot get more acquainted with politics than having been around it for all her life, and added that she has many friends and supporters in the Rural East constituency who are willing \u201cto help me get to know those individuals who I am not well acquainted with.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The prime minister\u2019s wife is confident that she will do well if selected to represent the voters in Rural East.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFirst of all I would say I possess the skill and the background to contest the general elections. I am willing to do the work and I know there are quite a few things to be done and I am ready to put my boots on and get going and work in the best interest of the people,\u201d Browne noted.<\/span><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

She is of the opinion that her good business background, having been in a management position at her family-operated business for at least ten years, and her educational background will prove to be positive forces in getting her elected to serve the people of this country.<\/span><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cAlso, I am a committed individual, I have good interpersonal skills, I am level headed and I am absolutely ready to work with the people of St John\u2019s Rural East,\u201d she added.<\/span><\/p>\n

If selected to represent the constituency on the ABLP\u2019s ticket, Browne is confident she will defeat the United Progressive Party\u2019s (UPP\u2019s) candidate Trevor Young.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI really don\u2019t think he stands a chance right now,\u201d Browne posited.<\/span><\/p>\n

Browne has a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in psychology and she is now pursuing her LLB (Bachelor of Law degree).<\/span><\/p>\n
