The Antigua and Barbuda swimming contingent broke 15 (of a total 33) records over this past weekend at the the 27th<\/sup>\u00a0annual\u00a0OECS Swimming Championships<\/em>\u00a0in St Lucia.<\/p>

Eight records were set by St Lucia, five records by St Vincent, and five set by champion Grenada.<\/p>\n

The records were broken by seven of the nation\u2019s young swimmers with\u00a0\u00a014-year old\u00a0Lleyton Martin<\/strong>\u00a0breaking the most records at the meet with six (6) and\u00a017 year-old\u00a0Noah Mascoll-Gomes<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0breaking five (5).<\/p>

The 11-14 boys relay team also won gold while breaking Martinique\u2019s record in a time of 1:51.14 in the 200 m freestyle event.<\/p>

The list of record-breaking performances are:\u00a0Hailey Derrick, 11, 400 FR (4:57.22); Noah Mascoll-Gomes, 17, 400 FR 4:04.62; 200 FR 1:54.75; 100 FL 58.75; 200 IM 2:13.37; 100 FR 52.01;\u00a0Aliah Maginley<\/strong>, 18, 400 FR 4:50.66;\u00a0Jadon Wuilliez<\/strong>, 14, Relay 1:51.14; 200 IM 2:14.33;\u00a0Diallo Marshall<\/strong>, 14, Relay 1:51.14;\u00a0Alexander Bento,<\/strong> 14, Relay 1:51.14; and Lleyton Martin<\/strong>, 14, Relay 1:51.14; 100 FL 58.09; 50 BK 28.05; 50 FL 26.40; 100 FR 53.74 and 100 BK 1:01.98.<\/p>\n

Another of the top weekend performers was 15 year-old\u00a0Bianca Mitchell<\/strong>, who garnered top female in the 15-17 girls category. Both Noah (18 and over) and Lleyton (13-14) earned top overall performers in their respective categories as well.<\/p>

Girls 12 year-old\u00a0Chelsie Winter<\/strong>\u00a0(11-12); 13 year-old\u00a0Olivia Fuller<\/strong>\u00a0(13-14) 2; Aliah Maginley (18 and over) all placed second overall. Boys Jadon Wuilliez (13-14) and 20-year old\u00a0J’air Smith<\/strong>\u00a0(18 and over) both placed second overall.<\/p>\n

Eight-year-old\u00a0Selah Wiltshire<\/strong>\u00a0(8 and under) and 14 year-old\u00a0Zoe Dennis<\/strong>\u00a0(9-10) both placed 3rd<\/sup>\u00a0overall in their respective girls categories. 8 year-old\u00a0Tivon Benjamin<\/strong>\u00a0(8 and under) also placed third overall.<\/p>

Head coach for the team, Nelson Molina, commended the team on what he termed as a, \u201cfantastic job and excellent spirit by each member of the team trying to work up to the next level.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cWe’ve got great kids and to break the records they did it was all about 100 percent preparation by their coaches.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Antigua national team placed third overall with 1,240.50 points, only 119.50 points behind Grenada (1,360). St Lucia placed second with 1,344 points.<\/p>\n

Coach Molina explains that, \u201ceven though we had a full team [of 34], many of our regulars were unable to make it to St. Lucia.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSamantha [Roberts] and Makela [Holowchak] were missing, for example, and we missed double points from the female relay team because of their absence.\u201d<\/p>\n

The coach, however, went on to laud the effort and the fight his team put up.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we were a few points behind, they put everything they had in the water trying to make up ground.\u201d<\/p>\n

The remainder of the national team are\u00a0Madison MacMillan<\/strong>,\u00a0Isabelle Bremner<\/strong>,\u00a0Jermaria Jackson<\/strong>,\u00a0Emily Gaillard<\/strong>,\u00a0Emily Dennis<\/strong>,\u00a0Chelsea Winter<\/strong>,\u00a0Arianna John<\/strong>,\u00a0Angelique Gittens<\/strong>,\u00a0Olivia Fuller<\/strong>,\u00a0Gabriella Gittens<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Sally Benjamin\u00a0<\/strong>on the girls side.<\/p>\n

Espriit Shaw<\/strong>,\u00a0Adrian Karam<\/strong>,\u00a0William Tranter<\/strong>,\u00a0Naeem DeSouza<\/strong>,\u00a0Kalan Christopher<\/strong>,\u00a0Ethan Stubbs<\/strong>,\u00a0Tony Goodwin<\/strong>,\u00a0Tanner Esty<\/strong>,\u00a0Osayaba Browne<\/strong>,Daryl Appleton\u00a0<\/strong>with\u00a0Robert Watkins\u00a0<\/strong>rounding out the boys side.<\/p>\n
