The age-old yardstick of promoting police officers based on years of service is about to change, Attorney General Steadroy Benjamin has announced.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

He told police officers at a recent ceremony that promotions will soon be based on performance.<\/p>\n

“No longer will promotions be based on how long you have been in the police service. Promotions will be based upon efficiency, professionalism, qualifications, and demonstration of your capacity to occupy those senior positions in the police force,” Benjamin told young officers.<\/p>

In addition, Benjamin has announced an annual assessment for police officers “and you will be given an opportunity to challenge that assessment if you think it is unjust.”<\/p>
