Antigua and Barbuda was featured during the Climate Finance Access Network (CFAN) launch at COP25 on 11th<\/sup> December in Madrid Spain.\u00a0 Antigua and Barbuda was represented by Ambassador Diann Black-Layne, Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s Climate Change Ambassador.\u00a0 CFAN, which was developed by the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), is a network of international organizations, countries, and donors working together to increase funds flowing to developing countries by providing climate finance advisors to each country.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

During the launch, a panel discussion was held underlining the challenges faced by countries and how CFAN hopes to resolve these challenges by using a high-impact, scalable approach to building finance capacity. This need to improve climate-financing capacity is particularly important in light of the huge gap between money pledged for climate change initiatives and what is actually received. It is estimated that between 2003 and 2017 over US $29.5 billion was pledged for climate change initiatives, but only US $5.6 billion of the pledged amount was actually disbursed.<\/p>\n

The newly launched CFAN network aims to ensure that more countries have access to finance experts who are better prepared and better connected to climate finance institutions. Within the next year, CFAN hopes to have at least 30 advisors working in country and assisting in improving access to climate finance.<\/p>

Also participating in the panel were representatives from Canada, the African Adaptation Initiative, the Green Climate Fund, and the NDC Partnership.<\/p>

COP25, which stands for the 25th<\/sup> Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Climate Change, is the United Nation\u2019s official climate change conference for 2019, and was held in Madrid, Spain from 2nd<\/sup> -13th<\/sup> December, 2019. \u00a0Antigua and Barbuda was represented by a delegation of nine led by Hon Minister Molwyn Joseph and Ambassador Diann Black-Layne.<\/p>\n
