The nation\u2019s main ports of call (Heritage and Redcliffe Quays) played host to four cruise vessels today\u00a0 transforming St John\u2019s into a hub of tourist activity.<\/p>

Two of the four vessels were welcomed by Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s Tourism and Cruise Authorities after they diverted from hurricane struck St Maarten which suffered major infrastructural damage.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis inaugural marks a special occasion to the cruise sector of our country for it means that our tourism product is being enhanced, our culture and local heritage is being experienced and our hospitality welcomed,\u201d remarked acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism Mrs Marvo Newton-Richards, during an official welcome ceremony on board the Mein Schiff 6.<\/p>

\"\"<\/div>\n

\u201cAlthough we definitely do not revel in our neighbours\u2019 misfortunes, we are cognizant of the fact that it takes a breath-taking experience for a visitor to give a pleasant referral and that is what we aim to accomplish in the quest to keep our cruise industry buoyant,\u201d Mrs Richards continued.<\/p>

Captain of the Mein Schiff 6 Kjell Holm, remarked his pleasure in berthing at the Heritage Quay Pier on this occasion as he has captained all previous Mein Schiff vessels on their inaugural calls into Antigua and Barbuda . He noted that for him English Harbour is the best port in the Caribbean!<\/p>\n

A plaque exchange ceremony took place between the officials representing the Ministry of Tourism, Bryson\u2019s Shipping (Agents), as well as the Immigration Department.<\/p>
