Former Governor General Dame Louise Lake-Tack has still not been paid all the monies owed to her when she demited office in 2014, though the government said it is negotiating the payout.<\/p>

Government lawyers met with the Cabinet on Friday to discuss the matter. Chief of Staff in the Prime Minister’s Office Lionel “Max” Hurst explained why they \u00a0payment has not been made.<\/p>\n

“The former Governor-General submitted a request for payment which the Cabinet considered to be highly inflated. It was therefore challenged,” Hurst wrote in his post-Cabinet notes<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

“The lawyers for each of the parties will get together to work out an arrangement that will protect the Antigua and Barbuda taxpayer, with the expectation of fairness to both parties under the law.”<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Dame Louise was appointed during the United Progressive Party administration. She served from July 2007 to August 2014.<\/p>\n

At the time of her replacement, the government had publicly stated that it did not have the funds to pay her the lump sum gratuity she is entitled to under the\u00a0Governor-General\u2019s Emoluments and Pension Act, 2006.<\/p>

Represented by Harold Lovell and other attorneys, Lake Tack took the government to court demanding $1.6 million as her exit package.<\/p>\n

In May 2015,\u00a0High Court Judge Brian Cottle ruled that the gratuity owed to the former governor general was $375,000 (of which, at the time, she had already received $100,000).<\/p>

Dame Louise also claimed for\u00a0$237,105 in vacation pay which the government again argued was highly inflated.<\/p>

It is unclear how much money the former GG is now demanding or how much she has been paid up to this point.<\/p>\n
