Faculty, administrators and students waiting to hear the fate of the Antigua State College (ASC) will have to wait on the results of a structural assessment by engineers.<\/p>

Minister of Education Michael Browne was non-committal on the way forward. He told faculty and management who met with him at the government-run college on Thursday that resources are limited and that any promises he made would be lies at this early stage.<\/p>\n

Minister Browne said he would give engineers two days to return to him with an assessment and then a decision would have to be made.<\/p>

The State College is closed to all Friday. Incidentally, students will be on a week’s mid-term break from Monday October 30 to November 5. During the break admin and cleaning staff are expected to be at work, while faculty and students will be out until Monday, November 6.<\/p>

Sources tell\u00a0Antigua News Room<\/em> (ANR) the meeting was contentious at times and made even more tense with the appearance of Principal Hyram Forde, who is presently out on pre-retirement leave. Dr Patricia Hill-Benn is acting in his stead.<\/p>\n

The meeting at one point descended into a blame game and ended abruptly when the Minister had to leave to attend a funeral. It finished at about 4:30 PM.<\/p>
