WhatsApp users have started to notice something different about the app \u2013 the fact that it now has Facebook\u2019s name plastered over it.<\/p>

That doesn\u2019t relate to Facebook the social network, it related to Facebook the tech company which owns both WhatsApp and Instagram. As well as Facebook itself, of course.<\/p>\n

A few weeks ago, Facebook announced new corporate branding as well as the decision to start adding \u2018from Facebook\u2019 to its portfolio of products. That also includes Oculus, the company responsible for futuristic VR gaming headsets.<\/p>

The new \u2018Facebook\u2019 logo was announced through an official blog post alongside a GIF of it in various different colours representing the different platforms that Facebook owns.<\/p>

\u2018We needed the wordmark to establish distinction from the Facebook app and allow for a clearer connection to the full family of technologies,\u2019 explained Antonio Lucio, Facebook\u2019s chief marketing officer.<\/p>\n

\n

\u2018The new brand system uses custom typography, rounded corners, open tracking and capitalization to create visual distinction between the company and the app.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018We designed the new company wordmark with clarity and openness in mind.\u2019 Considering the last few years have been particularly rocky for the main Facebook app, this is likely an effective way to try and distance some parts of the business from other parts. For its part, WhatsApp as recently unleashed a slew of new features as part of various upgrades.<\/p>\n
