Police Chief Daniel Carbon has announced that no permission was given to either of the political parties in Dominica to hold an island-wide motorcade this weekend.<\/p>\n

According to Carbon, he has concluded a meeting with his high command and representatives of both the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) and the United Workers Party (UWP), whom he summoned to discuss applications that he has received from both parties to hold motorcades on Sunday 1st, December 2019.<\/p>

<\/div>\n

\u201cAfter having discussions with them, I have taken a decision not to grant permission to any of the parties to have their island-wide motorcade on Sunday 1st, December 2019 or any day as a matter of fact,\u201d Carbon said. \u201cI have not given permission for any of the parties to have any motorcade at any day.\u201d<\/p>

Carbon said his decision was made out of concern over the security of the state as the \u201cgeneral election campaign is highly politically charged.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI have to take the safety of motorists, road users, pedestrians into consideration,\u201d he stated.<\/p>

Carbon went on to say that there will be two cruise ships in port on the said day and one of those cruise ships is a mega-ship.<\/p>\n

\u201cBoth parties came to the understanding and they decided that they will not have a motorcade,\u201d he said.<\/p>

Carbon called on the general public to be guided accordingly, \u201cthat I have not given permission to any of the parties to have any motorcade, not on Sunday, not on any day.\u201d<\/p>
