Prime Minister Gaston Browne says a major announcement is likely to be made on the Scotiabank in coming weeks.<\/p>

Browne said he met with Scotiabank officials in Washington last week.<\/p>\n

The prime minister said while he cannot give details of the meeting ” I can say definitively that the talks were very positive and that the matter will be settled within a matter of weeks, and it will be settled to the satisfaction of all stakeholders to include the customers, staff and the government.”<\/p>

\"\"<\/div>\n

Parties reportedly agreed to a gag order when negotiations with Scotiabank and local interest commenced last month.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Speculation is rife that Browne, who is also finance minister will announce the sale of the bank to a local group.<\/p>\n

He said, “notwithstanding all of the naysayers, all of the prediction of doom and gloom I have to say we have come to a positive solution on the way forward which will be announced in due course.”<\/p>

Last month, Scotiabank confirmed that its Antigua and Guyana branches will not be sold to Republic Bank as previously announced.<\/p>\n

Browne had been insisting that a local group be given the first right of refusal before the bank is sold. He also threatened to withhold the vesting order, a document needed to complete the sale in Antigua.<\/p>
