The DNA\u2019s newest political candidate, Louis Rivera, hails from the Old Runaway community and is pledging that he will be the next MP for St John\u2019s Rural North because, \u201cpeople want change.\u201d<\/p>

\u201cThere\u2019s been little to no development in this constituency, and by extension, our country,\u201d says Rivera.<\/p>\n

\u201cFamily stories told by my great grandmother, Irene Arindell revolved around no water. My grandmother\u2019s stories revolved around no water. My father could probably tell you the same stories that I can,\u201d Rivera laments.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cIt is time to break the cycle, and I mean really break it.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Rivera says that, \u201cas a teenager, I saw myself as the future Prime Minister.\u201d<\/p>\n

Having a keen eye on trade and commerce on the island the candidate bemoans the \u201cfailures and shortsightedness of our leaders.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

In the next general election, Rivera will possibly contend against constituency incumbent MP Charles \u201cMax\u201d Fernandez (ABLP).<\/p>\n

\u201cI think he\u2019s a good person, but I don\u2019t think he focuses enough on his constituents,\u201d says the candidate. \u201cI\u2019ve never seen him.\u201d<\/p>

The United Progressive Party (UPP) has yet to name a candidate or \u201ccaretaker\u201d for that area although, according to sources close to the party, they are considering Dr McChesney Emanuel, former New York-based Consul General and former chairman of the Antigua Barbuda Investment Authority.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Businessman Bryan DeSilva is also reportedly being considered by the UPP.<\/p>\n

Independent candidate, Nigel Bascus Jr, better known as \u201cMissing Link\u201d ran in the 2014 general elections as the lone candidate of the Missing Link: Voice of the People (MLVOP) party.<\/p>\n
