As the Nation of Antigua and Barbuda begins the long road of rebuilding our sister island of Barbuda from the devastation of Hurricane Irma, the need for assistance from our friends across the world has never been greater. Following the impact assessment of the total damage to Barbuda, approximately 95% of homes, buildings and the overall infrastructure on the island have been devastated.<\/p>

There has been, however, great outpouring of support and interest in supporting Antigua and Barbuda at this difficult time. High Commissioner Hill joined members of the Antigua and Barbuda National Association (London) on Friday 15th September to observe the loading of the first 40ft container of relief items for Barbuda from the Kestrel collection point in Barking. Kestrel has made collection points available in both Manchester and London to receive relief cargo free of cost and with the support of GEEST is committed to shipping the same to support the rebuild Barbuda effort.<\/p>\n

Present alongside High Commissioner Hill were staff of the High Commission; representatives of the Antigua and Barbuda National Association (ABNA) London whose members donated in excess of \u00a31400 worth of goods, namely Dawn Thomas, Youth and Development Officer and Ms. Suzanne Thomas, Education Officer; Connie Britton of Brit-Link and Rebecca Thorne of Kestrel. Kestrel and Brit-Link, in addition to providing the warehouse and shipping services, also donated relief items.<\/p>

The 40 ft Geest Line container was packed with items such as medical supplies, dried\/ canned foods, baby\/infant care items (diapers, milk, blankets), feminine sanitary products, general hygiene products and building supplies.<\/p>

At the time of this press release, the High Commission has received information from Kestrel Shipping that further items have been donated, signifying that there will be additional shipments to assist with the Barbuda Relief effort.<\/p>\n
